Agency: Family and Children’s Agency Family and Children’s Agency is located in Norwalk, CT. The mission statement is to partner with individuals, families, organizations, and communities to help them realize life’s possibilities. The agency has more than 70 years of experience in the field of social work and human services. They offer programs to individuals throughout the life cycle, including children, families, youth, adults and seniors. I am an intern in the Maternal Outreach and Mentoring Service (MOMS) project and healthy start. This is a prevention program whose goal is to increase the number of healthy babies born through education and an ongoing, positive relationship with a â€Å"Mentor,† who provides support and is an†¦show more content†¦Alberto promised to stay by her side and to not leave her when they were crossing the border. Many women are raped by their smugglers and having a strong male figure sometimes prevents that from happening. Their plan was to come to Norwalk, CT and live with Alberto’s mother who had been here for over three years. Crossing the border was not easy but they made it. Rosemary, Alberto, Alberto’s mother and Alberto’s stepfather lived together the first few years. Life in the United States was not easy for Rosemary and Alberto because they did not know the language and the culture was very different. Rosemary said that many times she felt lonely and missed her family in Mexico greatly. In Mexico she had many friends but in the United States it was difficult for her to make friends, she misses the social life she once had. Alberto’s stepfather was able to get him a job in a landscaping company, one that he continues to work for today. Rosemary was able to do a few jobs cleaning houses with his mother in law but most of her time was spent at home alone. In Mexico, she said, â€Å" I had so much freedom but in here you don’t know anyone and people are not as social.† Rosemary became pregna nt about a year after immigrating to the United States. Rosemary said that the day she found out she was pregnant was one of the happiest days of her life. However, she wished she could share this moments with her family in Mexico.
